On September, 22, 2003,
Dave Miller played live for 2 hours in a café bar in Anchorage, Alaska with a guitar he bought for twelve dollars.
After the show Dave received a round of applause and was paid 3 soft drinks and a sandwich for his performance.
That was the day, The Dave Miller Band, was born.
Today, The Dave Miller Band has played over 350 live concerts and appeared on TV, Radio, and numerous newspapers and
magazines. Dave not only owns and performs as The Dave Miller Band, but also owns and operates, Milhouse
Productions, an independent record label, which released his solo album, “My Tattoos” in 2008. In
2010, Dave bought and created”Studio Raven”, a professional recording studio and music school teaching drums and
guitar. Studio Raven now supports many new students and has recorded several acts for demos and advertisement
promotions. The Dave Miller Band has its own tour van and now its own clothing line and products. Currently,
Dave is booking for a 2011 Summer Tour and will release his 2nd album later this year.
Dave
was born on January, 29th, 1981 in Lewisburg, PA. At 6 years old he received a small drum set as a Christmas
present. Dave played along on his drums with a record player everyday teaching himself how to play totally by ear. Never taking
lessons for any musical instrument, he taught himself how to listen to music and figure out the drum lines, a technique he
still uses today when he teaches. At 15, he started teaching himself to play the guitar and began recording
his own songs melding his drums together with his guitar riffs. After high school, Dave put his music on
hold and went to Penn State for a degree in Criminology. A degree that took him to several police departments
as an officer including, New York City. After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Dave was employed in Katmai
National Park to work with Grizzly Bears and supervise air traffic to and from the camp. He lived in the
largest congregation of brown bears in the world for 6 months. During this time, Dave played the guitar more and more as filler
for not having his drums. One day, a fellow officer heard Dave and asked him to play for everyone in camp.
Dave began playing for everyone on a nightly basis. Upon returning to Anchorage, Dave played live at a café…
Dave constantly gives back to the community that has given so much to him. In 2009, Dave and WNEP reporter,
Norm Jones, headlined a SPCA event for Lycoming County. Dave was given an “SPCA Care Award”
after the televised event. Later in 2009, Dave learned of the sad passing of Cordell Page, a local wrestler who sadly passed
away from his injuries after a car crash. He and April Start from MTV collaborated in writing a song and
Dave held a live concert for Cordell and was able to raise over $4,000.00 to cover Cordell’s last expenses.
Dave and April signed over the rights to the song to Cordell’s family and is still available on I Tunes.
In 2011, The Dave Miller Band and Geisinger Hospital arranged a New Years show in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital,
the same place his daughter, Ella, was kept during her illness as an infant. The show was for patients
and their families only and was a huge success. On March 12, 2011, Dave helped organize a benefit concert for Justin Fuller,
a senior student in Montgomery, PA who died in a car accident. Dave asked the help of the Montgomery School
District and S.A.D.D. to develop the fund raiser. Dave accepted the opportunity to address the Montgomery
High School student body about the accident and the choices they make on a daily basis. He spoke in the auditorium to over
400 students the day before the concert to educate and help the students with their loss. The day of the concert, Dave employed
the entire group of S.A.D.D. members to be his stage crew during the concert to run sound, lighting, video, and security.
He also asked a current student of Studio Raven, Taylor Fleming, to play the drums during the show. The
concert raised $12,000.00 and paid for all of Justin’s last expenses and also created several scholarships for the graduating
class.
On September 2nd, 2008, Dave became a father to a little girl, Ella Mae. Ella Mae Miller was born
at 1.14 lbs and was in very poor health. Her stay in the hospital included 15 surgeries, 49 blood transfusions, and was in
intensive care for 4 straight months. Ella’s last visit to the hospital was with her father the night
of the concert he performed for the Children’s Hospital and its young patients and their families. In front of her former surgeons, doctors, and nurses,
Ella danced to her daddy’s music.
Away from music, Dave is a tattoo, shark,
MMA, and kayak enthusiast. He is a proud member of the ASPCA, Shark Diver Association, and Vital Ground
(a brown bear conservation effort started by Doug Suess who raised and trained “Bart The Bear”). He
also is an avid football fan, a recognized painter, and motorcyclist.
